Paul Griffith of the South Mississippi Golden Eagles proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the Rod Dedeaux League Most Valuable Player Award.

Griffith hit for a .412 average while collecting 73 hits, 9 doubles, no triples, 22 home runs, 70 RBIs and scoring 69 times.

He received 25 first place votes out of a possible 48. Lee Even of the Long Beach State 49'ers finished second in voting with 23 first place votes, while Juan Cordero of the Texas Longhorns finished third.

Ohio State Pitcher Gets Most Valuable Player Award

Fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes are hoping there are many more awards to come for their talented ace, Mike Snead.

At the age of only 20, the star pitcher has been named the Skip Bertman League Most Valuable Player Award winner for 2062.

"We knew Snead was a special player, but I don't think anyone expected him to get this good, this fast," the Ohio State manager said.

Snead's dominant season saw him throw 39.1 innings, with a 1.14 ERA and .181 opponent's batting average. He had a record of 1-1 through 9 starts and compiled a 2.2 WAR along the way.



He received 19 first place votes out of a possible 48. Andy Dunn of the Oklahoma Sooners finished second in voting with 18 first place votes, while Kevin Bennett of the Tennessee Volunteers finished third with 6 first place votes.
