Thunder Bay Hexed: No-Hit by Chavarin
Thursday, August 30th , 2063
Bobby Chavarin relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Thunder Bay hitless in a win, 7-0, at Pickaxe Field.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Lighting off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 21-year-old starter rung up 10 strikeouts and 4 walks in whipping the Lighting.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Thunder Bay skipper Masamune Fujimoto said.
During this season, he has made no relief appearances, earning a 7-4 record with no saves. In 101.1 innings Chavarin has struck out 123 with a 3.38 ERA.
