Brace on Fire: 5-for-5 for Windsor
Saturday, April 26th , 2064
A jubilant Mel Brace joined the postgame press conference at The Studio to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Boston Whitecaps pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Windsor Royals catcher, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 9-4 Royals win.
"He made it look easy," said T.J. Hall, manager of the Whitecaps. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Mel Brace doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Jude Helmer in the 8th.
Brace is currently batting .355 with 2 home runs, 6 runs scored and 8 RBIs. His OBP is .394.
