3000th Hit for Popper Tuesday, September 30th , 2064 John Popper has gone through many bats during his playing career. None of them means as much to him as the one he used to crack career hit number 3000 at Arnold Field yesterday. The 33-year-old Pilots third baseman told reporters after the game, "I plan to keep this bat at home in my own private Hall of Fame." It was a happy day for Popper from the standpoint of the 3000-hit milestone, but a little disappointing, too. Despite his achievement, Jacksonville dropped the contest to the Buffalo Bison 8-6. For the day Popper finished the day with 1 hit in 5 at-bats. Checking out his career figures, Popper has played in 2071 games with a .370 batting average. Among his 3000 hits are 549 home runs.
