Warriors Throttled by Stogies, 5-1
|
Havana pitcher Bryan Stanford had a large part in his team subduing the Walnut Creek Warriors, 5-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Stanford got the win, improving to 7-3. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Havana is now 79-54.
Alex Espinosa had a big 3-run home run for the Stogies in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Havana leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Marcel Antoine, who is tied for 5th in the RCL in complete games with 1, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 22nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Stogies ahead, 5-0.
"No time for posing," said Espinosa. "The next game will be here before you know it."
