The Santa Clara Vampires coasted to a win over the Derby Panthers, 13-0. Alex Melendez had a good day at the plate for Santa Clara. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Naoya Aihara, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held Derby to no earned runs on no hits over 5 innings, while racking up 10 strikeouts. Nick Wise recorded his 2nd save for Santa Clara.
The Vampires got an important contribution from right fielder Noah Baker, who in the bottom of the third hit a 1-1 fastball into left for a 2-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Vampires ahead, 3-0.
"It was full throttle on our side," said Baker.
Santa Clara has now won 3 straight, while the Panthers have lost 3 in a row.
