Toreros Rally For Late Win Over Pioneers
|
The Vancouver Pioneers got a superb performance from pitcher John Crowther, but the Cabo San Lucas Toreros still won the game, 8-5. Crowther threw 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs. Oliver de Leeuw went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the TML in quality starts with 7, struck out 4 and walked 2. With the win, he's now 4-4 this season. The Toreros, at 26-40, sit in last place in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.
Cabo San Lucas used the timely hitting of Adam Whitlock to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Toreros on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Whitlock said.
