Mavericks Earn Late 5-4 Win
The El Paso Mavericks dealt the Buffalo Bison a 5-4 loss at Thundering Grounds at Bison Stadium. Jeff Gifford, who is a three-time All-Star, was the star on offense. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Eric Reichel came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. Morgan Henn picked up his 18th save of the season.

Had Gifford not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Gifford hit a 2-run single. The Mavericks took the lead, 5-3, and never looked back.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Buffalo manager Jon Green.

El Paso is now 38-34, Buffalo 35-36.
