Birdwings Score 3-0 Win Over Carmel
|
Starting pitcher Chris Pirela did his part in helping the Hazleton Birdwings thwart the Carmel Apples, 3-0. The winner was Pirela. He threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Octavio Luis. Danny Gonzalez earned his 6th save, after closing out the game.
Hazleton used a clutch at-bat from Jean-Claude Baud to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Birdwings ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Chris just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Hazleton manager Matt Lindsley.
The Birdwings now own a record of 70-88.
