Loss Diminishes Fine Performance by King
|
The Hazleton Birdwings had to overcome a big game from St. Petersburg shortstop Oliver King to leave Road Warriors Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 4-2. King went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Nick Tullo, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 8-7. The Birdwings now own a record of 62-42.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Jeremy Lepage was at the plate when Hazleton scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Birdwings to go in front, 3-2.
"It was a good effort all around," said Lepage.
