The Chippewa River Chiefs beat the Victoria Vikings, 9-5. Chippewa pitcher and Bismarck, North Dakota, native John Smirnov led the way. The River Chiefs have an impressive 70-42 record.

Chippewa used a well-timed hit by Josh Thomas to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the River Chiefs ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Thomas.
