Barrels Rebuff Panthers, 4-3
|
The Niagara Falls Barrels stopped the Charleston Panthers, 4-3, at Franklin Mountains Field. The Barrels got a big game from Nate Simons, who went 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Tony Vertiz picked up the win in relief for Niagara Falls, while Kevin Tighe took the loss. The save was Jose Rodriguez's, his 21st.
It could have been a different outcome for Niagara Falls, had it not been for Sam Kowalski, the 23-year old shortstop . Kowalski contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Niagara Falls up, 4-3.
Kowalski attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
The third-place Barrels now sit at 53-34.
