The Chippewa River Chiefs got a stellar performance from pitcher Brett Lucido, who handcuffed the Charleston offense en route to a 7-1 win at Franklin Mountains Field. Lucido went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 8-4. Chippewa is now 55-39, 3½ games up in the TMLA Dick Williams Division.
Chippewa used the clutch hitting of Everton Hofland to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the River Chiefs ahead, 6-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Chippewa manager Clayton O'Neil.
