Bandits Nipped by Birdwings, 4-3
|
Hazleton Birdwings starter Chris Pirela pitched well against the Brownsville Bandits at Bandits Grove, leading his team to a win, 4-3. Steve Davila collected his 11th save. Hazleton, now 32-22, holds down second place in the RCL HA Tommy Lasorda Division.
The Birdwings got a big at-bat from third baseman Mark Hillis. For the game, Hillis went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Hazleton a 2-0 lead.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Hillis told the Hazleton Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs."
