The Hazleton Birdwings wanted a good start from Carlos Arreola -- and he delivered one. The result was a 3-1 Hazleton win over the Eugene Emeralds at Road Warriors Field. Randy McCafferty recorded his 7th save for Hazleton. Hazleton is off to a hot start at 13-2.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Birdwings had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when designated hitter Elwiin Groot hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Victor Oceguera and made the score 2-0, Birdwings. Groot was 1-2 with a walk.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Hazleton manager Roberto Flores said.
