Victory Pushes Knights Record to 5-5
|
Charleston left fielder Johnny Bench Jr. had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Bench Jr. was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, even as Kingwood beat the Panthers, 7-5. Bench Jr. was named the player of the game despite the loss. Edgar Ortiz was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. The Panthers drop to 4-5 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2044 season.
Rich Hildenbrand helped out the Kingwood cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman drew 1 walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Hildenbrand said.
