Martians Win Streak Reaches 6
|
The Moonbeam Martians topped the Hazleton Birdwings, 6-2, in RCL HA action at Road Warriors Field. The standout performance belonged to Moonbeam pitcher and Round Lake, Illinois, native Bill Oestreich. Oestreich got the win, improving to 2-0. He gave up 8 hits and walked 3 over 8.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Joe Keefer picked up the save for Moonbeam, his 2nd of the year.
Dan Martin had a big 3-run home run for the Martians in the top of the sixth inning. With Moonbeam leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Gilligan and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Martians on top, 6-1.
"Bill has got a slow heartbeat," said Moonbeam manager Daniel Wilson. "He doesn't panic or anything."
The win lifts Moonbeam to a record of 6-0.
