The Evanston Bishops got a marvelous performance from pitcher Dan Gardner. The left-hander kept the Rock River offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-1 Evanston victory at The Rat Hole. In 8 innings, Gardner surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The third-place Bishops are 62-60.
Gerard Parr went 2 for 6 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs for Evanston. The 27-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the second. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a 2-run single off Manny Irizarry. It was his 25th hit of the season.
"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Gardner.
