Win Lifts Whitecaps to 45-32
|
Antonio Mendoza never let the Cornhuskers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his sinker, to pitch the Whitecaps to a win, 4-1. Mendoza picked up the win for Boston, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 3-0. Earning the save was Scott Roberts. He's now cashed in 4 of 4 save opportunities.
Rich Tooze had a big run-scoring triple for the Whitecaps in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Boston leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Jose Huerta, who is tied for 3rd in the TAA in quality starts with 9, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 6th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whitecaps ahead, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said Tooze.
Boston leads the RCL AA Lou Piniella League by 2 games.
