Murraysville Peacocks starter Steve Matkin turned in a sterling performance against the Rock River Rats, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. The save went to Jared Haney, his 9th this season. The Peacocks are now 22-52.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jarrod Lombardi came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Rock River pitcher Chuck Green, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Murraysville on top, 3-2.

Matkin attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
