Whitecaps Pull Off Thrilling 5-3 Win in Extras
The Boston Whitecaps racked up a win at Red Bull Stadium, bumping off the Murraysville Peacocks, 5-3, in 10 innings. John Spears, who started for Boston, pitched effectively for his team. Chris Sarne picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Steve Matkin suffered the loss. The win puts the Whitecaps at 22-21, while the Peacocks drop to 13-31.

Jose Ortiz came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"I'm happy we won," said Spears. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
