Stogies Get 4th Straight Win with Late Rally
|
The Havana Stogies besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Maple designated hitter Luis Garza by beating the Marauders, 6-4, at Magnificent Marauders Mansion. Garza was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Yale Fischer, who led the RCL in saves with 43 last year, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-3. The losing pitcher was Joe Trumbull. Danny Arias earned the save for Havana, his 3rd of the year.
Havana needed the clutch hitting of Erik Mettlen to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Stogies on top, 5-4. For the game, Mettlen had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We put it together and came out with the win," Mettlen said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Marauders are now 12-19.
