The bad news for the Dallas Texans: an opening day loss, 8-5, to the Chicago Eclipse at Metroplex Park. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Larry Gilliland. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice.

In the top of the seventh, the Eclipse grabbed the lead when Gilliland hit his 2nd home run of the season. The 3-run home run off Victor Lara made it 6-4, Chicago.

"We did a lot of good things tonight," said Chicago manager Demetrio Recchia.
