Mavericks Win with Late Rally
|
It took 16 innings to settle this one.
Alex Garza did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Asheville Moonshiners from losing the game, 5-4, to the El Paso Mavericks in 16 innings at The Still. Garza went 4-6 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ryan Burnett was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 7 save opportunities.
El Paso used the timely hitting of Manny Gallegos to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 16th inning to put the Mavericks on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, Gallegos said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
The 5th-place Mavericks are now 48-55, the Moonshiners 46-57.
