Montreal Hands Kansas City 5-0 Defeat
|
Debris Field was the site for Thurman Munson League action featuring the Kansas City Tornadoes and Montreal Jazz.
The Kansas City Tornadoes got a sterling performance from pitcher Jose Calderon, but the Montreal Jazz still prevailed, 5-0. Calderon threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Ghaysun Sghir earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 4.1 innings. He upped his record to 4-9.
Montreal left fielder Alex Madera contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 13th hit of the season and put the Jazz ahead, 1-0.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Montreal manager Steve Beech.
The 'W' lifts Montreal's record to 43-39.
