Gomez Hurls No-Hitter Wednesday, July 11th , 2063 The Rockville Rangers were just hoping for a solid outing from Hugo Gomez. Instead, they got something special. The 18-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Easton Caterpillars, helping the Rangers take the 10-0 win. "I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Rangers. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special." Gomez's repertoire has a slider, sinker, splitter, changeup, and fastball, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Easton hitters off balance all game long. The Rockville hurler fanned 7 and walked 3 in his history-making performance. "His slider looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Easton manager Mekonnen Asani joked after the game. Up to now Gomez has compiled an ERA of 2.45 with a 2-1 mark over 3 starts. He has 20 strikeouts in 22 innings and has held opponents to a .162 batting average. View Boxscore View Game Log |
