Elijah Tapps Bashes Three over the Wall Friday, May 12th , 2062 Elijah Tapps of the Golden Eagles won the battle against Oklahoma pitching, but lost the war. He hit three out of the park at Biglerville College Fields, got his name in the league record book, but South Mississippi came up short in the win column, losing to the Sooners, 11-10. The South Mississippi catcher was red-hot, the ball just exploded off his bat all day long. "I don't try to hit homers," he said. "I try to go out there and have good at-bats. If I put a good swing on the ball, then it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one. I just try to have good at-bats." For the game, the 21-year old catcher Tapps went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Where does he rank this day in his career? "It's up there," Tapps said. "I'll put it up there in the upper echelon, despite the loss." Elijah Tapps flied out in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Ed Wilcox in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Phil Swanson in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Taylor Tapp in the 9th. So far on the season, Tapps is hitting .345 with 7 home runs, 35 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 49 hits and played in 37 games. |
