Thal Belts 3 HRs Monday, May 8th , 2062 It was a day for the record books for Rice Owls right fielder Bill Thal, who walloped three out of Toughkenamon College Fields against the Ducks. However, not even a three-homer game could prevent the Ducks from getting the 18-8 victory. "We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em, and we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," Rice skipper Jeff Hulse joked after the loss. Thal still had a few opportunities to celebrate along the way. He was 3-for-5 for the day, batting in 5 runs and scoring 3 times. "I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Thal said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time." Bill Thal flied out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Art Godfrey in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off David Toellner in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Mike Havlin in the 9th. Thus far this year, Thal has hit .321 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs. |
