Whitney Belts 3 HR for Tigers
Tuesday, April 4th , 2062
Clemson Tigers right fielder John Whitney put on a dazzling display of power at Magistrates Ballpark against the Florida Gators. In the 25-9 Tigers victory, Whitney penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Florida manager Mazigh Mutta said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 21-year-old had 3 hits in 6 at-bats, 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Whitney said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
John Whitney hit a two-run home run off Pablo Duarte in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Tommy James in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Steve Beacher in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.
This season, Whitney has hit at a .317 clip with 19 RBIs, 6 home runs and 10 runs scored. He has played in 15 games.
