Malloy, Navarro Suspended for Fracas Saturday, June 7th , 2064 Yesterday at The Pond Keith Malloy and Willis Navarro got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Nichols Gnats and Houston Sting. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Malloy will have to sit out 4 while Navarro would be given a 2-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. For the season, Malloy is hitting at a .305 clip with 2 home runs, 24 RBIs and has scored 18 runs. He has 51 hits, 36 walks and a .438 on-base percentage. So far this year, Navarro has made 0 starts, tossed 18.2 innings, struck out 17 batters and walked 11. His record is 0-0 with a 6.27 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .276 batting average. |
