Sandy Springs No Match for Carpenter
Friday, September 19th , 2064
The Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters shut out the Sandy Springs Spartans, 5-0, behind the strong pitching of Eli Carpenter. Carpenter surrendered only 5 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 8.
Following the last out, Carpenter appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Sandy Springs manager Rafael Alonso, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Carpenter's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Spartans skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Pipe Fitters press conference, Carpenter confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Carpenter said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Niagara Falls manager Jonathan Kelly added.
So far this season, Carpenter has logged a 2-2 record with a 3.97 ERA. He has started 7 games, hurled 45.1 innings and registered 38 strikeouts and 18 walks.
