Hit Parade: Mendez Pops 5 Hits
Friday, July 28th , 2062
After his 5-hit effort at Durham Bulls Athletic Park was tarnished by Fairfield's 7-6 loss to the State College Swallowtails, first baseman Jonas Mendez told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."
He didn't get the win, but the 18-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Swallowtails.
"His swing is getting there," said Flash skipper Edward Batkin after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jonas did that to perfection and we wasted it."
Jonas Mendez singled in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off Marty Taborda in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Jay Clayton in the 9th.
This season, Mendez is batting .232 with 33 hits, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, .308 OBP and has scored 18 runs.
