League Punishes Pair for Fighting
Thursday, May 12th , 2061
Yesterday at The Corral Jarrod Conter and Edwin Serna got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pennsylvania Butterflies and El Paso Mavericks. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Conter will have to sit out 5 while Serna would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
This year, Serna has a 4-1 mark in 8 starts with a 3.61 ERA. He has given up 39 hits in 42.1 innings, struck out 30 and issued 17 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .241 batting average against him.
