Pennsylvania Halts Bitner's Hitting Steak
Tuesday, September 9th , 2064
Late in the game, all eyes in The Kaleidoscope were on Earl Bitner as he stepped into the batter box. His 38-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Bitner, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Bitner, it was that his Maple Marauders won the game anyway, stopping the Pennsylvania Butterflies by the score of 5-2.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Bitner told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 38 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
To date Bitner has chalked up a .317 average with 25 home runs, driven in 94 runs and scored 70 times.
