Cortez Voted May's #1 Newcomer Sunday, June 1st , 2064 It was a whale of month for 21-year-old Leonardo Cortez of Montreal. He stepped up in class, monopolized batters and today reaped the reward -- the Roberto Clemente League chose him as the Rookie of the Month. In 4 starts he fashioned a 3-0 record, worked 27.2 innings, allowed 21 base hits, struck out 18 and walked 8. Teams combined to hit .212 against him in May. Thus far this season, Cortez has worked 61 innings with 36 strikeouts en route to a 4-2 record and a 3.39 ERA. |
