Gunther goes 3-for-4 as Lancers Squeeze Past Tioga Central
Getting a good performance from right fielder Mike Gunther, the Canby Lancers defeated the Tioga Central Tigers, 9-8. Gunther was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Lancers. Ryan Simpson earned the save for Canby, his 9th of the year. Canby is 20-19 and Tioga Central, with the loss, 24-15.

In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Gunther's contribution. The Canby right fielder is a relative newcomer. With two out in the bottom of the eighth, when the Lancers had the bases loaded, Gunther delivered a crucial bases-clearing double.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Tioga Central manager Norio Rin. "But we decided not to take it."
