The bats were silent much of the day at Thundering Grounds at Bison Stadium. But 24-year old catcher Tomas Lazo produced just enough offense to carry the Pioneers past the Buffalo Bison, 3-2. Lazo went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Mike Ortner earned the win to go to 4-1. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout in 7.1 innings of work. Willie Arredondo collected save number 18.

Had Lazo not come through in the top of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Lazo hit a run-scoring single. The Pioneers took the lead, 3-2, and never looked back.

"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Vancouver manager Jesús Morán.

At 33-37, the Pioneers are currently 6th in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.
