Atlantics Score Late to Beat Pipers, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Cuautitlan Izcalli Atlantics and the San Carlos Pipers. Cuautitlan Izcalli won it, 2-1. Cuautitlan Izcalli starter Alfredo Mejia was in command. Cuautitlan Izcalli reliever Cesar Caamano picked up the win, upping his record to 16-10. Omar Moreno absorbed the loss. At 73-86, the Atlantics find themselves in second place in the TML LA West Division.
The Atlantics were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 22-year old shortstop Matt Kay landed a big blow. He turned a 1-2 curveball from Omar Moreno into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Atlantics Grove denizens into a frenzy and sent the Atlantics home with a thrilling 2-1 win.
"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said Cuautitlan Izcalli manager Javier Medina.
