Saint John shortstop Luis Carcia helped his team beat the Royal Oak Leprechauns, 16-8. Carcia went 3 for 5 for the Alpines. The Alpines now have a record of 88-67.

In the bottom of the first, 22-year old catcher Jesus Espada hit a grand slam home run. The 11th home run of the season for the Saint John catcher put the Alpines on top, 4-0.

"If you were looking for a pitchers' duel," said Espada, "this wasn't it."
