Swallows Turn Back Yokohama, 4-2
|
Cuckoos Stadium was the site of the home opener for the Yokohama Bay Stars. The contest featured a prime matchup between Nijiya Ishikawa of the visiting Tokyo Yakult Swallows and Liu-liang Chen of the Bay Stars. The final score was 4-2, the Swallows getting the win. Earning player of the game honors was Nijiya Ishikawa. Ishikawa, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Lee Lee was credited with the save for Tokyo Yakult, his 1st of the season.
With two out in the top of the sixth, Ki-seop Char stroked a go-ahead 2-run triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put Tokyo Yakult in front, 4-2.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Ishikawa.
