Jazz Best Toreros in Pitching Duel
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Montreal Jazz and the Cabo San Lucas Toreros, pitcher Michael Hepples was superb. The Montreal left-hander, who finished 3rd in the TML in strikeouts with 292 in 2053, spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Connor Mpasa picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. B.J. Bichler, who is tied for 3rd in the TML in complete games with 1, was tagged with the loss. Ernesto Herrera, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 15th save.
The Jazz got a big at-bat from third baseman Bill Buntrock. For the game, Buntrock went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 8th double of the season gave Montreal a 2-1 lead.
"I like what I saw today," said Montreal manager Steve Beech, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Montreal is now 36-33.
