Pioneers Dismiss Earthquakes, 4-2
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Vancouver Pioneers got the win.
The Vancouver Pioneers tallied a win at Golden Gate Park, throttling the San Francisco Earthquakes, 4-2. Starting pitcher Danny Gifford was a big reason for his team's success. Gifford picked up the win for Vancouver, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 4-5. Willie Arredondo nailed down his 16th save.
Vancouver used the hitting of Luis Gallardo to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Pioneers on top, 4-0. For the game, Gallardo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Said losing manager Bill DesMarais: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
Vancouver, at 29-34, holds down 6th place in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.
