Baseball fans saw a good contest between the El Paso Mavericks and Manhattan Slice.
The El Paso Mavericks dealt the Manhattan Slice a 3-1 loss at The Corral. Manny Gallegos went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Edwin Serna, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 2-0. Frans van der Meer picked up the save for El Paso, his 2nd of the year.
With El Paso leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Gallegos hit a changeup from Dave Crain for a solo home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Mavericks ahead, 2-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" El Paso manager Lorenzo Castillo said.
With the loss, Manhattan is 3-4.
