Mounties Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Hornets
|
Eureka got a valiant performance from pitcher Cesar Romo, but it wasn't enough to beat the Montreal Mounties. Montreal won the game, 4-3. Romo threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The win was credited to Matt Lopas in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Ezedine Adegoke took the loss. Montreal, at 35-26, holds down second place in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.
Had Jared Jones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Jones hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Mounties.
"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Jones told the Montreal Today. "And padding the Montreal win column."
