Salukis Suffer 8-4 Setback

The Florida Gators overcame a good performance by South Illinois center fielder Ryan Richardson to knock off South Illinois, 8-4, at Field of the Shield. Richardson was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Florida reliever Mat Sperry was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Tom Paliwoda took the loss. Florida goes to 13-8, South Illinois to 11-10.
Florida relied on the hitting of George Conlee to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put the Gators on top, 1-0. For the game, Conlee had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We've got a great group of guys," Conlee said, "and we're having fun right now."
