South Illinois 13-6 After 5-3 Win Over Alabama
|
The South Illinois Salukis topped the Alabama Crimson Tide, 5-3, in Skip Bertman League action at Field of the Shield. The standout performance belonged to South Illinois pitcher and Medway, Massachusetts, native Kevin Helle. Matt Korney claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record stands at 1-1. The save went to Andrew Parks, number 1 for him.
Mike Schaefer drove in one run for South Illinois. The 18-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jonathan Bunting. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"Thought I threw pretty well and overall I felt good," said Helle.
The Crimson Tide, now 7-12, have lost 4 straight.
