Cardinals Edge Scorpions, 7-6, to Open RLC
The Montreal Cardinals powered past the visiting Scottsdale Scorpions, 7-6, in the opener of the Rookie League Championship at Denis Coderre Stadium. Scottsdale second baseman Omar Ruiz was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the losing squad. The Cardinals now lead the series 1-0.

Had Tim Rock not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Rock hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Cardinals.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Rock, "but a win in the playoffs is nothing to sniff at."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Denis Coderre Stadium in Montreal.
