Almost There: Thunder Bay On Cusp of LCS Triumph After 6-5 Win
|
Riding the 4-hit performance of catcher Antonio Marquez, the Thunder Bay Lighting got a road win against the Scottsdale Scorpions, 6-5, in Game 4 of the League Championship Series. Marquez was 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk for the Lighting, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 1.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bobby Vargas? The 19-year old shortstop Vargas stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Thunder Bay up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Every team in baseball loses," Scorpions manager Sergio Guerrero said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale.
