The Jacksonville Pilots began the 2066 season with a convincing 6-4 win over the Maple Marauders at Arnold Field. Most impressive was Jacksonville first baseman Luis Velez, who was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times.
Jacksonville took a 6-4 lead on Chris Ingram's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which Ingram hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Maple pitcher Ron Elliott visibly frustrated.
"The team always comes first," Velez told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
