Earthquakes Do In Warriors, 7-4
The San Francisco Earthquakes downed the Walnut Creek Warriors, 7-4. The hitting star was designated hitter Junior Leeney. Leeney went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Earthquakes. San Francisco reliever Lou Ayres picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Danny Logan absorbed the loss. Alejandro Anaya earned save number 5 this season.

Leeney contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for San Francisco in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Leeney took a forkball from Danny Logan and stroked the double to right. His 18th double of the season allowed the Earthquakes to leap in front, 3-2.

Earthquakes manager Bill DesMarais praised Leeney after the game. "I keep telling everyone," he said, "'Don't go to sleep on this kid.'"

The first-place Warriors now sit at 41-17.
